The Scottish dirk is one of the best known fighting knives. A development of the ballock knife of medieval Europe, the earliest known dirk dates from about 1680 but was probably in use at least as early as 1650.

The steel blade features traditional jimping on the spines. Wooden grips are decorated with expertly carved interlace patterns. Leather scabbards are elegantly enhanced with brass.
